WORLD RELIGION DAY

OMAGH

On Sunday 16 January the Bahá’ís of Omagh celebrated World Religion Day, as they have every year since 1984. This year’s meeting was attended by over 70 people. It took place in the spacious meeting area of the main Library and was introduced by Dr Rustam Jamshídi. The programme included prayers and readings from Bahá’í scriptures, focussing on the theme of “The World Order of Bahá’u’lláh”. The readers were of different genders and ages—a man, a woman, a youth and a child. There was also an audio-visual presentation, prepared by Colin Palin from Londonderry, on the subject of the theme and songs were performed and self-accompanied on guitar, by soprano, Mrs Mary Ward, a Bahá’í also from Derry.

As part of the programme, Mrs Vída Lake—recently returned from a visit to Sumatra, where her mother lives—read a Prayer for the Departed and a Healing Prayer, in memory of the many thousands of the 26 December tsunami victims.

LONDONDERRY

More than thirty people, a third of them not Bahá'ís, coming from both sides of the Border, attended the World Religion Day meeting in Londonderry on 23 January. This was the first local celebration of this Day for several years and took place in The Junction, a city-centre venue. The programme of readings and music was well received and the feeling was that this should become a regular event in Derry once again.
