Pat Baillie

Pat Baillie veteran member of Carrickfergus community, passed away on 2 March, 2005 CE.

Pat BailliePat Baillie’s funeral was held in Carrickfergus on the 6 March and the hall was packed with friends and family. All were coming to pay their respects and to celebrate the life of a lady who has touched the lives of so many. Pat lived in Greenisland and worked in Queen’s University for more than three decades. She was a strong character with a direct approach to life and yet was the essence of kindness to so many who crossed her path. All those who knew her feel her loss and mourn the passing of a soul who gave so much of herself, but quietly: her deeds always exceeding her words. To a bereaved neighbour, a sick friend, or to someone in need Pat was a silent friend. Her confidentiality was not breached and she did not waste time. Though honest and truthful to the point of frankness her heart was easily touched and to both people and animals she had huge reservoirs of care and kindness. Perhaps no one will ever know how many lives Pat touched because she herself would not speak of it, but it was evident in the faces of those attending her funeral. There was no room to sit, and hardly room to stand, in the hall and so many who came to pay their respects all bore witness to the qualities of a special soul. From work colleagues to old friends the words reminded everyone that the community had suffered a great loss.
