FROM THE BAHÁ’Í COUNCIL

Dear Friends,

At its meeting on the weekend of 9 and 10 September the Council heard a detailed report of the impact of the first public performances of Lights of Unity. At that stage there had been five public performances following an intensive six-week training period.

The Council was particularly pleased to hear a report of a performance with a group of young people in the Short Strand community centre. This performance had been particularly well received by the children in the audience and there was an invitation for follow-up sessions in the Short Strand youth club.

At its meeting the Council also heard from some junior youth animators who were present in Short Strand who described the potential for junior youth programmes to be developed following performances such as this. The Council is very keen to explore the potential for performances by Lights of Unity to be followed by junior youth programmes, children’s classes, devotional meetings and study circles.

The Council was also delighted to note the wonderful spirit of service that had been demonstrated by the nine cast members, the great sacrifices that had been made by many people in supporting the cast, and most particularly the dedicated service that had been given by Adib Ma’ani in training the cast over an extended period.

The Council commends everyone involved with Lights of Unity for the high quality of the performances and encourages communities to use the project in a way that will integrate with the core activities. Lights of Unity offers very exciting opportunities for the Bahá'í community in Northern Ireland. Well done to all involved.

The Council urges communities to give their whole hearted support to this service project. Details of forthcoming performances are on the web site: www.lightsofunity.org

Yours in His service,
Bahá'í Council for Northern Ireland.
