Dr Keith Munro was one of a small group of people honoured with a North West People of Year Award. The ceremony took place in Londonderry on 17 June 2006 at a reception attended by the Mayor, Members of Parliament, representatives of churches, local government and community groups as well as by members of the public.
The award citation, printed in the event programme, spoke particularly of Keiths involvement with the Foyle Hospice, which gives care to terminally-ill patients in the area and support to their families. He has been serving the hospice since its inception more than twenty years ago, has been vice-chairman of its trustees for a number of years. He was the author of a book giving about the history and work of the Foyle Hospice, which was published last year.
The citation also spoke of his work as a doctor in the city for many years and as a Forensic Medical Officer. It spoke about his commitment to the Bahá'í Faith and how its serves as his inspiration, giving a little information about the Faith.
In his award acceptance speech Keith quoted the words of Bahá'u'lláh (the paragraph beginning Be generous in prosperity ) as a guiding light to conduct for all people.
