Bahá’í Youth of Northern Ireland

Dear Youth of Northern Ireland,

The Norwegian Bahá’í Youth Committee would like to invite any interested youth over the age of 15 to this years Nordic Bahá’í Youth Conference. We are expecting around 150 to attend mostly from Scandinavia but also from around Europe. The conference is being held in English. This year the conference will be held in Lillehammer, Norway, from April 5-9. Lillehammer as you may recall was the home of the 1994 Winter Olympic Games and lies about two hours north of Oslo.

Consuming, Choosing, Creating - Media

The theme and title of this year's conference is "Consuming, Choosing, Creating" and is related to how we as Bahá’ís consume, choose and create media (e.g TV, music, film, video games, internet). In addition to the main talks, the programme will include performances from exciting Bahá’í artists including Shirin Hosseini Sech from the UK (read below), Ann Sofie Wensbo from Sweden, and Terje Seljevold from Norway. Participants will be able to choose from a wide range of creative and artistic workshops including:

  • Song Writing and Setting Melodies to Bahá’í Scripture
  • Drawing and Painting
  • Drama
  • Choir and Music
  • The Art of Story Telling Dance
  • Writing for the Web

Take-Away Value

We hope that participants will come away from the conference with a greater consciousness about the way they consume and choose various media forms and also be inspired to create new forms of creative media which reflect the spirit and teachings of the Bahá’í faith.

Film Writer and Director Mark Bamford

We are delighted to welcome Mark Bamford as the main speaker for this years conference. Mark is an American film writer and director whose award-winning work has screened all over the world. He is also the founder of the Bahá’í Media Network, an online group of Bahá’í media professionals with more than 250 members from over 60 countries.

Entertainment

On the opening night participants will be introduced to the talent of Shirin Hosseini-Sech from the UK who is a Bahá’í youth currently carving out a career for herself as a commercial recording artist. Her music which is a mix of Bahá’í-inspired and pop songs have been playing on UK radio stations and it is only a matter of time before she hits the big time!

Regulars to the Nordic Youth Conferences will be pleased to hear that Sweden's own Ann Sofie Wennsbo will be performing her soulful renditions to Baáa'u'lláh's writings and participating in the conference. Of course it goes without saying, that you catch up with all your old friends and hopefully meet some new ones too! We are looking forward to an exciting Conference and look forward to seeing you there.
