YOUTH WEEKEND

Another tiring term of work finished, and deadlines of coursework and exams are not so far: what better time to have a youth weekend to keep us going till Summer?

On Friday 30 April, it all kicked off when Soha, Maryam, Natasha, Cameron, Sana, John, Jamie and me (Cyma) met at The Dreen. After exploring the house and sorting out rooms and duties, we tucked into a lovely dinner and had a youth discussion with some prayers. When the sky turned dark enough (enough for me to bump into things anyway), we made a bonfire, complete with hot chocolate, marshmallows and…er…rich tea biscuits. To help us ignore the raging sparks and flames, we had a devotional and some talented people played songs.

The next day, after our hour-too-early-U2-wake-up-call, we got ready for the day and Afnan gave us a brief lesson about the Ruhi process. What I mostly remember from it is the cat being renamed ‘Poochy’. After a lunch of never-ending pasta, we took the liberty of enjoying the sun by having Afnan’s talk about spreading the Bahá'í Faith outside. We then played a guessing game, had some sing-a-longs and walked to the train station where we met Nason. After the tiring walk some people thought it wise to go for what seemed a refreshing dip in the lake…they were wrong. So when the boys had recovered from near-hypothermia, we had dinner (yes, it was pasta), and Jamie and Nason gave a humorous talk about their experiences on their years of service. We then repeated the great previous night with another bonfire. Same combination of food, but this time with burnt oranges! Yummy. We then ended the night with either a showing of ‘School of Rock’, or simply just going to bed.

On Sunday it was our last day, and that always means three things: breakfast, packing and saying goodbye. But in between all that we had a nice feedback session and we are hoping to have more youth weekends, which brightened us up. Oh, and we couldn’t forget lunch (if I see pasta one more time…). Well, I want to thank Maryam and Natasha for making this youth weekend superb, and for everyone else who turned up – you guys made it great too. I have a feeling this is just a taste of what’s to come at Summer School.
