JESUS AND HOME VISITS

Eddie Whiteside looks at an early Exemplar of home visits:

With the emphasis throughout the Bahá'í world on home visits, I thought it might be interesting to look at the examples provided by Jesus. For the purpose of this article I have confined myself to the accounts recorded in St Matthew’s Gospel. (Revised Standard Version of the Bible) although the other Gospels will furnish further examples.

  • In Matthew 8 v14 Jesus visits the home of Peter’s ill mother in law and heals her.
  • In 9 v10 He visits the hated tax collector’s house
  • In 9 v23 He comes to the ruler’s house to cure his two daughters
  • In 9 v28 He is recorded as entering the house to cure two blind men
  • In 10 v12 we have the very interesting advice on how to enter a home
  • In 26 v6 He visits the home of Simon the Leper and is anointed there
  • In 26 v18 He celebrates the Feast of the Passover in a home and celebrates The Last Supper

I think certain recurring themes run through each of these home visits, e.g. open to all, acts of service, and spiritual conversations. Now where have we heard that before?
