GRAVE MATTERS IN CASTLEREAGH

In response to a letter from our National Assembly regarding the location of Bahai burial places Hushang and Marion were tasked by Castlereagh Assembly to scour the locality and leave no stone unturned to unearth this information

Girding up their loins this intrepid pair arrived at Roselawn Cemetery with a list of names of Bahá'ís who had passed on to uncover which if any had been buried in the cemetery. Accosting the local caretaker with this list, Hushang noting the caretakers rather bemused response plunged in with an explanation. “I understand, you could be an accessory to body snatching here, we may come back and raid the graves in the dead of night.” Marion and the caretaker doubled up with laughter. The nature of the request and some basic information on the Faith was then given.

Some time later the task still unfinished Hushang was loitering with intent around Dundonald Cemetery when he bumped into the same caretaker. “Oh it is YOU!” She exclaimed. “Yes” quoted our indefatigable investigator, “I am looking for more dead bodies.” Let it not be said that Castlereagh Bahá'ís miss any attempt to teach the Faith of God even in places where people are physically if not spiritually dead. Following this encounter Hushang made a special trip to Roselawn Cemetery to leave a copy of the magazine ‘The Bahá'ís’ for this caretaker. Any other community that wishes to gain guidance on teaching the Faith in Cemeteries would be advised to consult Marion or Hushang on this tricky task.
