bahai-ni

bahai-ni is the e-announce list of the Bahá’í Council for Northern Ireland and all the Friends are asked to subscribe to it. It is where you will see the news first and sometimes (especially for time-sensitive and event announcelements) it's the only place it will appear.

Purpose Bahai-ni is the email group that has been established by the Bahá'í Council for Northern Ireland. The purpose of bahai-ni is to:
- Provide a mechanism of communication between the Council and Bahá'ís in Northern Ireland enabling the sharing of information and news.
- Provide a channel of communication that can be used by individuals, groups, Assemblies and Council agencies to share information. .

Subscription Subscription to bahai-ni is free of charge and is open to all Bahá'ís in Northern Ireland. Bahá'ís resident elsewhere may also subscribe if they have an interest in being informed of activities in Northern Ireland. To subscribe send an email to the list manager at bahaini@googlemail.com.

Posting messages All subscribers to bahai-ni can post messages. Messages that are sent to the group are forwarded to the list manager for moderation before being posted to all the other group members. To post to the group the message should be sent to bahai-ni@googlegroups.com.

The types of messages that are encouraged are:
- News of events that are being organised by Bahá'í agencies and where Bahá'ís in one or more cluster are being encouraged to attend.
- News from a local Bahá'í community that may be of interest to a wider Bahá'í audience e.g. a story of success in teaching the Faith.
- Personal news e.g. births, marriages, deaths, etc.

Bahá'ís are asked not to re-post messages from other lists e.g. NEWS. If such an item is to be shared it is better that a new email is written referencing the original item, explaining its importance and relevance to Northern Ireland and giving a contact where a copy of the original can be obtained. This approach is more likely to encourage Bahá'ís to subscribe to NEWS and will hopefully cause less frustration by people receiving multiple identical emails. It is also important to note that bahai-ni is not a discussion forum. If an email is sent to the group raising an item for discussion it is unlikely to be posted to the group.

Encouraging the use of bahai-ni The Council recognises the importance of bahai-ni as an essential communication tool for the community. In order to promote the profile of bahai-ni, agencies of the Council are asked to post to it first, i.e. before sending emails to multiple email addresses. They are also asked to encourage the use of bahai-ni.

Official communications from the Council bahai-ni will occasionally be used to send out messages on behalf of the Council. In such instances the message will appear as being posted from the following email account: “Baha'i Council bahai.council4ni@googlemail.com”. Only official communications on behalf of the Council will be posted from this account.

Communications from the list manager Occasionally the list manager will post to the group. In such instances the email will appear as coming from the following email account: “list manager bahai-ni bahaini@googlemail.com” . Postings from the list manager will normally be in instances where:
- There is general administrative information about the group to be shared with all subscribers or
- A message has been received by the list manager that merits posting to the group.
