The long-established summer school now held in the Belfast area plays a significant part in the life of the Northern Ireland community and to this end the Assembly would hope to see it further develop on a firm foundation. Northern Ireland Summer School is a medium sized family-friendly school with a well deserved international reputation for its content, accommodation, and fellowship. There are programmes for adults, youth and children, arts sessions, entertainments, and ample time for relaxation and fellowship. Such is its reputation that a significant number of those attending come from outside Northern Ireland. In 2011 it is taking place again at the highly-praised Lorne centre, a few miles outside Belfast.
