Naw-Rúz in the Barn
This year Londonderry community held one of their old-style Naw-Rúz
parties in the Barn at Kevin and Nooshin's house near Claudy. The Barn had been
newly converted and now has kitchen, a main hall and a brand new entrance. Over
eighty people turned up from all parts to celebrate the New Year with a 50/50
mix of Bahá'ís and their friends.
Edwina and Arjang Agahi entertained and informed everyone with their
wonderful Unity in Diversity Flash presentation. A sumptuous feast was
provided and everyone enjoyed karaoke afterwards. Joan Catterson's rendition of
The Black Velvet Band will long be remembered,
Quite a number of the guests had travelled long distances to be there. We
were especially happy to see Jimmy and Janak McGilligan from India. Their new
Social and Economic Project has been renamed 'Barli' and can now attract money
from any source. There were Bahá'ís from Letterkenny, as well as
Omagh, and some of the younger ones sang My Donegal Home. It was felt by
everyone - guests and organisers alike, that this was a very special event and
hopes were raised for another great Party next year.
Londonderry Assembly Submits views on Domestic Violence
The Spiritual Assembly of Londonderry recently made a submission on
"Domestic Violence" to the City Council, which had been seeking views
as part of the public consultation process. The submission is short and was
based on the two excellent statements on the subject issued by the National
Spiritual Assembly. Anyone who is interested can obtain a copy from Iain Palin
(hard copy or electronically as PDF file) - e-mail
ispalin@whsmithnet.co.uk The
document has, like other statements from the Derry Assembly, been placed in the
Assembly's Website at www.bahai.org.uk/londonderry
