FROM THE BAHÁ’Í COUNCIL

Dear Friends,

LIVING A LIFE OF SERVICE

It was with great sadness that we heard of the passing of Hand of the Cause of God Mr Furután. His dedicated service to the Faith spanned most of the last century, a century of light. Many Friends in Northern Ireland will have a memory of his meeting them on pilgrimage with outstretched arms. He became a loving host, a wonderful guide, an educator and a shining example to those who were privileged to meet him. When he spoke adults listened, but for children he was a powerful magnet. The force of his love drew children to him. The room would become illumined by the light of this love. Many evenings, although he was failing in health, he would go to the pilgrim house to talk to pilgrims from all over the world. He continued to do this right up to his last breath. What service, what love, what devotion. If we could show a small part of this love and service how wonderful our feasts would be. When we host a devotional meeting in this spirit it becomes a haven of joy. Mr Furután' s faith gave happiness to his heart, this happiness spilled out, to touch and transform everyone around him.

On other matters:

The Bahá’í Council For Northern Ireland has the great privilege of attending an institutional meeting for the United Kingdom to be held on 31st January and 1st February in Coventry. These meetings are held both regionally and nationally and are an opportunity for the elected arm of the Faith, with the help of Counsellors and Auxiliary Board members, to review what has been done and to look at ways forward. We ask for the prayers of the friends that this meeting may help to enhance the work of the Faith in Northern Ireland

Change has occurred as a result of the election of Council members for Northern Ireland and it is with great joy that we welcome Mrs Edwina Agahi to this body. The long and dedicated work of the outgoing member Mrs Viny Robinson is greatly appreciated. Viny served with distinction on the Council since it was first established.

Officers of the Bahá’í Council for Northern Ireland have been elected for this year as follows:

Chairman Patricia Jamshidi
Vice-chairman Marion Khosravi
Secretary Edwin Graham
Treasurer Pat Craig

With warmest Bahá'í greetings,
Bahá'í Council for Northern Ireland.
