“Awkward Questions” in Derry

On the 9th of January the air was alive, though not with the sound of music! Derry played host to one of the most exciting deepenings in a long time. Patricia Jamshidi had bravely agreed to deal with “Some Awkward Questions”, questions raised by individuals. These were sent to her in advance so that she could prepare responses based on the Writings but that didn’t stop the discussion getting rather—er—lively on occasions. It brought people to the edge of consultation, continuing well into the night, leaving food forgotten (well almost). Good humour proved a good way to keep things from getting too heated. We completed the evening we shook hands, all friends, and appreciating Patricia’s work in preparing the responses and in dealing with the discussions so well and in such a straight-forward manner. But all agreed that the Derry community hadn’t seen a discussion like it for a long time and would probably not again for a good while.
