MAGHERAFELT

MAGHERAFELT At the most recent (June) meeting of UNIFEM in Magherafelt, Councillor Kate Lagan Chair of the Magherafelt District Council was present and showed great interest and support for the work being done by the women in Magherafelt. She expressed that she would like to support a major women’s conference before her term of office ends. This resulted in a one-day conference on the theme “Connecting Women local/global” which she opened and attended all day. The Bahá’í community of Magherafelt put up a most colourful exhibition. The counsellor was presented with copies of Bahá’í publications. Dr Keith Munro was the guest speaker who gave a most interesting talk on his Great Aunt, Margaret Cousins, who promoted women’s rights in India and Northern Ireland. Hazel Holmlund represented UNIFEM. Mrs. Marie Robinson, Chair of UNIFEM –NI gave a wonderful talk on UNIFEM. Amongst many engaging sessions of the day was a comic sketch performed by the highly talented members of the Community Theatre Group and a poem ‘Always a woman’ (about the heroism of Tahirih) by Bahá’í poet Roger White was recited beautifully to great approbation.

WE WELCOME...

A warm welcome to Niamh O’Hagan (Cragiavon) and Gerardine Young (Belfast) who have declared their faith in Bahá'u'lláh and been enrolled in the community.

The purpose of God in creating man hath been, and will ever be, to enable him to know his Creator and to attain His Presence… The fundamental purpose animating the Faith of God and His Religion is to safeguard the interests and promote the unity of the human race, and to foster the spirit of love and fellowship amongst men.” Bahá’u’lláh, Gleanings.
